Leslie’s Place provides the resources desperately needed for women reconnecting with their lives and their loved ones:
  • Approximately 2,500 women are released yearly from the Illinois prison system. That's an average of fifty women each week starting over in the world, many of them with no place to go.

  • Eighty percent of incarcerated women are mothers of at least two children.

  • Since 1994, hundreds of women have lived at Leslie’s Place.

  • 70% have obtained employment.

  • 95% are successful recovering addicts.

  • 80% have participated in computer training.

  • 95% have participated in job readiness, parenting, and life skills workshops.

  • 95% were immediately reunited with their children at Leslie’s Place.

In the year 1983, there were only 386 women in the Illinois prison system.   Today, there are approximately 3,000, sixty percent of whom are from the Chicago area.

Success Stories

January 15, 2010  The ladies of Leslie's Place went to the Annual Soul Food Dinner, and all the Alumni were there. It is good to fellowship with people that have made it through. So I know that I can do the same thing. The food was great, and I enjoyed the singing and all of the speakers. I am looking forward to next year....... Sallie

January 15, 2010    What I enjoyed about the Alumni Dinner is how well put together the program was. Mrs. Brown spent so much time and energy in preparing everything. She gave gifts to the former residents who are still today staying focused. Mrs. Brown is very loving and caring, and works to encourage the ladies to give themselves a chance that they can do anything they put their mind to through God who strengthens us all............ February 16, 2010    Thank you for your kindness towards me. You are a women of God, and you taking time out with me means so much to me. You don't need me, and it's the small things that mean the world to me. Thank you.......................... Renee

February 20, 2010      Mrs. Brown, Leslie's Place has been a blessing to me, and I am fortunate to be able to live here after my prison bit in Dwight. I have been able to get what I need to move forward. I have learned to be a productive citizen again. While here I have become more grateful, and more responsible. I am utilizing the many tools obtained to stay clean and strong. I have always had a relationship with God, but through Mrs. Brown, I now have a closer relationship with Him. She has given me a great start, and now I must utilize her teachings, and her wisdom to carry me throughout my life's journeys. Thanks for having me as one of your girls. I would LOVE to come back one day to tell my story to the new ladies....... Felicia

February 8, 2010   Since I've been at Leslie's Place, I have learned to place God before anything else in my life. I was baptized on February 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church, at 1613 W. Washington, Chicago, IL. I have accomplished many things while here, such as, learning to change my attitude, and the things I say out of my mouth. I can look at situations in a different way, and be more positive. I am thankful to Mrs. Leslie for accepting me here, and helping to motivate me to do what is needed to live a better life for myself. Marilyn
